PRGRAMME OBJECTIVES

  • The Objectives of this Training Programme is to provide learners with the understanding and competency levels required in order to work effectively and safely within the Guarding Services Sector of the Irish Security Industry.
  • The programme will focus on Legislative as well as Civil Obigations of Security Personnel to ensure not only their ultimate safety and security but the ultimate safety and security of members of the public. The Security Officer will be responsible for the Protection of Assets from all forms of Loss.
  • This programme will also enable participants to apply for a Security Guard (Static) License from the Private Security Authority (PSA) as required by current legislation for the Licensing of security personnel working in Ireland.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Explain the legislation, regulations and standards governing the provision of a private security service to include reference to the Private Security Services legislation, relevant national and international standards and the role of the Private Security Authority
  • Explain the role of private security services in relation to other agencies which deal with crime and loss prevention
  • Distinguish between legal codes and practices relating to the role of the security officer to include - criminal and civil law, rights of the individual, health and safety legislation, equality legislation and security industry licensing requirements and relevant national and international standards
  • Explain the status of representatives of authorised bodies entering premises to include a member of An Garda Siochana, fire officer, health and safety inspector, representative of the security industry regulatory body
  • Contrast the role and responsibilities of a security officer employed directly by a client in-house and the provision of a contract security service
  • State the principal points of relevant national labour regulations
  • Explain a range of personal and professional qualities required of a security officer
  • Indicate relevant health and safety requirements, including dealing with fire, that impact on the duties and responsibilities of the security officer
  • Explain what is meant by loss and fraud prevention
  • Explain what is meant by reasonable and necessary force
  • Outline appropriate on-site cash handling procedures
  • Carry out the duties and procedures required of a security officer
  • Respond appropriately to security incidents and emergencies
  • Use a variety of supporting security tools and equipment
  • Demonstrate appropriate procedures for dealing with a suspect
  • Demonstrate a range of procedures for loss prevention and identification
  • Demonstrate procedures for the preservation of a scene of crime, the recording of incidents and liaison with appropriate agencies and organisations
  • Use appropriate communications skills and a range of customer service techniques in a variety of situations in the workplace.

DURATION

Due to recent developments with FETAC and Its Integration into the New Qualifications Authority - Quality & Qualification Ireland (QQI) the duration of this course has been altered to reflect the New Training Specification to be Implemented. This 100 hour course is delivered through a blended learning approach. The indirect aspect is broken up through a series of pre course work, practice time, study time, reflection time. Learners must conduct a home study element of the course prior to attending training program which covers the more theoretical aspects of the program. The more practical aspects and skills learning developed during direct contact. 100 Hours of which there will be 30 Direct Contact Hours in the Classroom.

Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) Level 4 Certificate.
